The St. Cloud Mayors Prayers Breakfast has been going on for more than ten years.

Organized by the Christian Business Men’s Committee (CBMC)of St. Cloud, the purpose is to pray for and offer support and encouragement for our government leaders as well as provide inspiration and fellowship to all who attend.

Many community and business leaders attend this event each year, including pastors and ministers, business leaders and of course Mayors from the 10+ surrounding cities.

Last year’s keynote speaker was Dave Anderson, founder of Famous Dave’s restaurants. “Dave's life story has been featured in two best-selling books on the New York Times Best Seller's List... In Dave's own life, he has experienced adversity, frustration, and bankruptcy as well as tremendous success.” “Dave has helped found several publicly traded companies on Wall Street, creating over 20,000 new jobs and billions in sales.”

Over 600 attended the 2010 Mayors Prayer Breakfast.

This year’s keynote speaker is Greg Hall.

Greg Hall was involved in the rescue of 33 miners trapped in Chile on August 5th, 2010. The drilling success of Greg Hall has become known around the world as a miracle.  Greg will be telling his story of how God used Greg’s drilling expertise and leadership skills to complete the “impossible project.”

“Greg is the owner of three businesses: Drillers Supply International in Cypress, Texas, DSI-American Manufacturing in St. Joseph, Minnesota, and DSI S.A. in Antofagasta, Chile. DSI S.A is the company that led the Mine rescue in Chile.  Greg graduated from Texas A&M in 1982 with a major in Engineering Technology.” –found at.

The Mayors Prayer Breakfast will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10th, at the River’s Edge Convention Center (formerly the St. Cloud Civic Center)

Are you looking for an interesting devotion to read daily that will teach you history and provide Bible verses for your day? Do you need a new fresh light to shine God's love for you? On This Day in Christian History by Robert J. Morgan is just that devotion for you! Each day provides a short biography about a saint, or a martyr or even a hero in Christian history. Such amazing facts are given every day that I never knew about. This book provides each day with a new sense of peace from God's love and delight at having each day to thank Him for.

The Victory of Reason: How Christianity Led to Freedom, Capitalism, and Western Success

Rodney Stark tells how Christianity gave rise not only to visions of reason and progress but also to the construction of capitalism. Stark shows that Christianity is a forward-looking religion, with bold faith in progress and in its followers' abilities to understand God over time. It was this future-based rational theology that encouraged the development of technical and organizational advances, such as the monastic estates and universities of the Middle Ages. Stark concludes by maintaining that Christianity continues to spread in places like Africa, China and Latin America because of its faith in progress. One could draw a conclusion from this work, that Christianity is the cornerstone of global economic development.

Social Justice and the Christian Church

This is an illuminating book that throws down the gauntlet to those who wish to capture evangelical Christianity for causes that perpetuate poverty rather than eliminate poverty. Nash shows that the many ideas that are build on socialism result in worsening the conditions of the needy. Nash explains that true ‘social’ justice is found in true love for the needy, which is found in those that are willing to take a deeper look at what really works and what does not. The result is that many today that gather supporters to join their cause to help the poor are actually the reason the poor never escape a life of poverty. Read this book if you truly want to liberate people from poverty.

Business for the Glory of God

When students ask, “How can I serve God with my life?” they don’t often hear the answer, “Go into business”. But that is exactly what this book says. Grudem says, “human desires to increase the production of goods and services are not in themselves greedy or materialistic or evil. Rather, such desires to be productive represent God-given desires to dominion over the earth as He created us to do.” Grudem also explains that significant temptations accompany all productions of goods and services, which we need to resist. This is not a ‘Health and Wealth’ gospel, but a biblical looks at the goodness of business.
