How Close Is America To The Lords Red Line?

By: Curtis Ophoven 0 Comments   8/29/2013

Don’t worry there are a lot of Christians in America, God will not abandon us - so they say.  And if we just plead with him, he will save our nation.

There is a verse that says if we turn from our ways and call upon the Lord that he will heal our nation.  But we are not doing that.  Yet many today are saying these things with little regard to the fact that this generation is falling away from the faith at the fastest rate in history.

It is true that faith produces confidence and confidence is required for leadership, but confidence in a nation that is turning away from God is foolishness.  Yes God can do anything and our nation is never out of his reach, but at some point we need to deal with the facts.

We need to look in the mirror and ask the hard questions.  We need to preach repentance and the justice of the Lord.  The fact is we do not have a specific promise from God to protect America.  All we have is examples that we can read about in the bible.

For example, God promised the Jewish nation in Deuteronomy that if they followed the Lords commands, they will be blessed and their children will live long in the land of their fathers.   But if they do not follow the Lords commands, they will be cursed and their children will abandon them and their lives will be cut short.

Krik Cameron created a movie showing how America's history follows this promise - Monumental.

Similar promises can be found in several places in the bible.  In some cases the Lord points out a nation as an example of how “you will reap what you sow” and if you sow to the Spirit you will reap in the Spirit, and if you sow to your sinful nature, then you will reap the destruction that results. (Galatians 6:7–8)

Sodom And Gomorra

When the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorra there were fewer than 10 righteous people living in the cities of about 5000.  That comes to about 0.02%.  Sodom and Gomorrah ... serve as an example (Jude 1:7) of the justice of the Lord.

According to the new poll by George Barna, only 4% of Americans have a Christian biblical worldview.  This means that we are getting very close to the Lords ‘red line’.

It's time to preach repentance. It's time to stop setting our hope against the promises of the Lord.  It's time to realize that his righteous demands justice.

Raised with Christ: How the Resurrection Changes Everything

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead separates Christianity from all mere religion. The resurrection of Christ was the greatest event in history, because it changes everything and give us a future. That future is the source of hope that allows us to live, bold and courageous lives, knowing that the plan of the Lord has been revealed to us and he has included us both now and in the future to be part of his kingdom. Without the resurrection, we would not have a purpose in the future or a reason for the present.

Mally makes a compelling case to young people, addressing the fears we face and excuses we make, and provides vision for being strong for the Lord in our youth. It contains practical ideas of how to begin conversations, how to ask the right questions, defend the gospel, and walk closely with the Lord ourselves.

The Victory of Reason: How Christianity Led to Freedom, Capitalism, and Western Success

Rodney Stark tells how Christianity gave rise not only to visions of reason and progress but also to the construction of capitalism. Stark shows that Christianity is a forward-looking religion, with bold faith in progress and in its followers' abilities to understand God over time. It was this future-based rational theology that encouraged the development of technical and organizational advances, such as the monastic estates and universities of the Middle Ages. Stark concludes by maintaining that Christianity continues to spread in places like Africa, China and Latin America because of its faith in progress. One could draw a conclusion from this work, that Christianity is the cornerstone of global economic development.
