If You Think You Can Handle Real Fear This Halloween, Try The Fear Of The Lord

Warning: the passages that you are about to read have the power to change your life forever in so much that you will never be the same person you were before.

“Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.” – Romans 4:8

This is a profound verse because it tells us that the Lord will hold us accountable to our sin and it is a blessing to those who’s sin the Lord will never count against them.

Consider the authority the Lord has to even make such a statement.  The justice of the Lord is without question something that I do not want to stare down.

Through the fear of the Lord a man avoids evil.” – Proverbs16:6

The fear of the Lord is not something we hide from, but something that blesses us by keeping us from the destroying our lives by avoiding evil.

“Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word.” – Psalm 119:161

This is interesting. The writer says that rulers persecute him and have the power to kill him, yet he is more afraid of what the Lord has said, because he knows that the Lord has much more authority. The author knows,“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” – Matthew 10:28

How about this one;

“Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” – Isaiah 45:22

From one end of the earth to the other, there is no other God and no other way to be saved.  Now that is scary if you consider nearly half the 8 billion people alive today do not believe in Christ.

“But if they had stood in my council, they would have proclaimed my words to my people and would have turned them from their evil ways and from their evil deeds.” – Jeremiah 23:22

This verse tells us that if we stood in the court room while the Lord judged cases and handed out sentences to the guilty, we would realize that he is not playing games and he is just in his judgments.  The life/death sentences that he gives out would compel us to do everything we can to convince people to turn from their evil ways while they still can.  Can you amagine being a witness and hearing people screaming and fighting with all their strength as they are dragged away.

When Job questioned God, God responded;

“Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?” – Job 38:35

God didn’t just create the heaven and the earth and walk away, watching from a distance. He is active in the earth.  He directs the path of lightning bolts.  He controls the weather, the stars and the moon and everything on earth and in heaven.  That is awesome power.

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." - Proverbs 14:12

WOW. What seems right to us in the natural, without any knowledge of God, leads to death. The reason of course is because our hearts are born with wickedness already in them.  The knowledge of God is not just a nice-to-have, but is critical for our very survival. Without the knowledge of God, there is not one person that would lead themselves to a life of happiness and peace. Without His intervention to reveal his knowledge to us, we have no chance of survival in this life or the next.  With that in mind, if the bible were not the truth story (Romans 1:17) we would all be doomed.

“The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.” – Proverbs 10:27

This verse tells us that respecting the authority of the Lord causes us to make decisions that lengthen our lives.  Without respecting the authority of the Lord, we make bad decisions that reduce the length of our lives.  It is dangerous for us to live our lives without the Lord.  Now that is scary, because there are a lot of people that would live a lot longer if they only believed in the Lord. This should be one of the questions they ask when applying for life insurance that is used to determine the risk of death.

“But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death." – Proverbs 8:36

Those who do not find Christ harm themselves, because he is the way, the truth and the life and there is no other.  Likewise, if you reject Christ you are saying that you would rather shorten your life and remain un-reconciled to God in which you remain guilty before him, with a death sentence on your life.

All of those are very scary, but perhaps the most awesome is his ability to split the sky and reach down into someone’s personal life and intervene at the moment they cry out to him. He is a personal God. No matter the circumstance, no matter the obstacle and no matter the amount of sin that someone has committed.

After all these years, he is still able and willing and waiting for each one of us to turn to him and be saved.

“That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord,"and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9

That is an unfathomable amount of dedication to His creation.

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31

When we reconcile with God, we join his family and since he is the reigning King no one else that is against you can take away your present freedom or your future inheritance which is secured by the reigning King.  This is where real hope is found, a hope that is greater than anything the world can offer. This hope only comes from the Lord.

Praise Him for what He has done by revealing Himself to us and giving us the opportunity to be saved. The fear of the Lord is truly awesome.

The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism

In this apologia for Christian faith, Keller mines material from literary classics, philosophy, anthropology and a multitude of other disciplines to make an intellectually compelling case for God. Written for skeptics and the believers who love them, the book draws on the author's encounters as founding pastor of New York's booming Redeemer Presbyterian Church. One of Keller's most provocative arguments is that all doubts, however skeptical and cynical they may seem, are really a set of alternate beliefs.

Evidence for God: 50 Arguments for Faith from the Bible, History, Philosophy, and Science

In Evidence for God, leading Christian scholars and apologists provide compelling arguments that address the latest and most pressing questions about God, science, Jesus, the Bible, and more, including: -Did Jesus really exist? -Is Jesus really the only way to God? -What about those who have never heard the gospel? -Is today's Bible what was originally written? -What about recently publicized gospels that aren't in the Bible? -Is intelligent design really a credible explanation of the origins of our world? This book shows that is it more intelligent to believe in God then not to.

How Christianity Made the Modern World

The books shows how through century after century, Bible-believing Christians put their faith into action to help those who were unable to help themselves. In an age where Christians are often marginalized and where secular reporters with their warped anti-Christ agenda decry much of what our forefather did or even deny the West's Christian heritage, then this book is refreshing, life-giving and invigorating rain from heaven, soaked in facts, history, testimony and personal observation in country after country and place after place. Christianity is truly responsible for the success of the modern world.

The Truth War

Truth is under attack, and much is at stake. Christians are caught in the crossfire of alternative Christian histories, emerging faulty texts, and a cultural push to eliminate absolute Truth altogether. In this amazing new book, MacArthur reclaims the unwavering certainty of God's Truth and anchors Christians in the eternal, immovable promises that are found in His Word.
