Involvement In Local Community Is An Opportunity To Bless Your World

ST. CLOUD - It’s important for Christians to connect with others in the community. If we don’t how are we going to impact the world?

I’m noticing that Christians are more willing to do this than ever before. It’s seen in my neighborhood, city, and country.

This reveals that unity is being restored, what an exciting time we live in!

In my neighborhood we have many willing to help pitch in their time and energy. A couple examples were: while helping a neighbor bring in their items for a neighborhood sale one was willing to take in a bin and later offered to get their tables and racks with their truck.

This was offered and no one even asked. Also, many get involved volunteering for our neighborhood picnic. We even have some businesses contribute to the cost. Isn’t that a blessing? It makes everyone enjoy where we live even more.

A few weeks ago I was invited to Lake George on Wednesday night by a Christina friend and finally went. It was a fun atmosphere and I enjoyed being there. While I was there I ran into several Christians. Christians need to learn how to have fun and lighten up (I am preaching to myself here) and who knows why we have become so serious, most of the time Christians are too busy to have fun and are driven to be more productive. So it was wonderful to see Christians out and about having a good time.

At Lake George they have had live music every Wednesday night for free during the summer months. There are vendors set up for refreshments and you can use the paddle boats for a fee. This event is called Summertime by George and it is sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Cloud. For more information, visit the website: http://www.summertimebygeorge.com/

Ever since they have remodeled the Lake George area it has drawn in a different crowd. More and more people want to be there and I believe the atmosphere has changed and it’s now a friendlier, family, atmosphere that is safe for children.

Recently in Dallas Texas, Glenn Beck had encouraged many to participate in Restoring Love. It was a week of people gathering together to help serve. “More than 65,000 people filled Cowboys Stadium to see one of the most polarizing figures in America: conservative radio host Glenn Beck (Solis, 2012).” It’s hard to imagine so many people that showed up and volunteered their precious time to work for free. What a great example for us to model after. Let’s restore love in our cities and neighborhoods too.

St. Cloud has many things to offer us for reasons to gather and enjoy being together. From Community Ed. classes for most ages with a wide variety of choices, the Whitney Senior Center for those blessed with age and the Skate Park for teens etc… Some places have been here for a long time and others are new. Let’s not forget the many churches in our city either.

It’s time for us to extend a hand of love to our neighbors and get involved with the community. It’s really a blast so don’t miss out on connecting with your community! When we are too busy it keeps us from being available for spontaneous ministry and if we look to Jesus’ example in the gospels, all of His ministry was spontaneous.

If we’re not connected with those in the community how are we going to know what they need and reach them with the gospel? They need to hear the good news!

Isaiah 61:1 The spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor, He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound (NKJ).

The spirit of the Lord is on you! You are anointed to bring good news to the poor. God is sending you to heal the brokenhearted and set them free! Do you believe this? It is true.

1 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (NKJ). Don’t be afraid, the Lord will help you to share only what is needed if we simply listen to Him. We really need to depend on Him and what to say for each person because everyone is different and there isn’t a formula for sharing the Lord with others.

We need to be witnesses. During these uncertain times many people need to hear a message of hope and love. People are fearful and need to learn about the peace that God can give. My prayer is that those who read this would receive God’s courage and boldness that will cause them to easily share the gospel of Jesus Christ as they connect in the community.

Isaiah 43:10 You are My witnesses, says the Lord, and My servant whom I have chosen...(NKJ).

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

It is very exciting to be used by God in sharing the gospel. There is such a joy when those we come in contact with become interested in the receiving forgiveness of sins and turn to the Lord. The kingdom of God is here we just need to proclaim it and show people how to find Him. Let us work together in unity within the community and have fun. God wants us to have everlasting joy and we will as we begin to step out!

Gospel: Recovering the Power that Made Christianity Revolutionary

This book shows the relevancy of Christ and the gospel and how it works not only in the past, and in the future, but especially in the NOW. We are the NOW generation, and the best way to live in the NOW is to apply the gospel daily. The most powerful words in the world are in the scriptures and available for us to read and meditate upon, day and night so that we can overcome the things of this world and live in victory each day.

The God Who Is There: Finding Your Place in God's Story

This book tells the big story of Scripture, helping readers to know what they believe and why they believe it. It explains the Scriptures so that a person who has never even opened the Bible can understand it. Dr. Carson tells us about God, how good he is because he has done so much for us in spite of our disregard for him. If you invest the time to learn about him and get to know him, you will realize he has a treasure for us that is far greater than the cost seeking after him.

When People Are Big and God is Small: Overcoming Peer Pressure, Codependency, and the Fear of Man

Welch has written an excellent book on the need for us to realize how great God really is and how we need to stop fearing other people so much. The focus is to have a greater healthy fear of God to the point that other people have less power and control over our lives. This book calls us to deny ourselves, to crucify our ungodly desires for popularity, fame and good opinions of man – so that we can experience the abundant life that intended for us. The Christian worldview is revolutionary because it states that we are not god and He is, any attempt to become god is futile.

The Triumph of Christianity: How the Jesus Movement Became the World's Largest Religion

This is an honest look at how Jesus became the most important person in the history of the world. The story is fascinating because, there is a case to be made that the most important and influential person in the history of mankind was Jesus. There are other contenders, naturally; Buddha and Confucius come to mind, perhaps Muhammad. But the history of Christianity, plus the amazing speed with which it is growing in Africa and Latin America right now, certainly makes Jesus a very serious candidate. So, how did it happen? Up to now, there haven't been many satisfactory answers, unless you are content to admit that Jesus is God.
