Muslim-Christian Debate, 'Is Mohammad Mentioned In The Bible?' And Every Other Question You Ever Wanted To Ask

By: Amanda Mattingly 0 Comments   10/5/2012

ST CLOUD – Muslims and Christians alike continue to quarrel over ideas of the Bible, the Qur’an, Jesus, and Mohammed. But what better way to look at these questions than to hold an event where questions are met with intelligent, truthful, and Biblical answers.

The debate will be held at St. Cloud State University on October 20th and will investigate whether or not Mohammed was mentioned in the Bible.

The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the SCSU Atwood Center Voyager Room where Mr. Farooq Kaase Andzenge and Mr. Alyas Masih will debate this issue and then hold a 30-minute public question and answer session.

Andzenge is a Muslim convert from Christianity and is now a Muslim leader in St. Cloud where he attends the university. Masih is a Pakistani/American Christian who has found life-changing truth in the Bible.

Masih and Andzenge were first introduced at a forum organized by Muslim students at St. Cloud State University. It was after this event that Andzenge challenged Masih to the upcoming debate, allowing him to pick the final topic for the debate.

“I chose this topic [Mohammed in the Bible] for the opportunity to preach the Bible to Muslims,” Masih said.

In this debate, Andzenge will seek to show that Mohammed is recognized and validated in the Bible while Masih will aim to show that according to the Scriptures, there is no prophet after Jesus Christ.

“My goal is to show Muslims that the correct way of Biblical interpretation is to read the Biblical passages in their context, and in doing so, to find out that there is no prophet after Jesus Christ mentioned in the Bible,” Masih said.

Masih has a challenge ahead of him as he shows that Mohammed is not represented in the Bible. But he seeks to show both Muslims and Christians alike that Bible interpretation is always crucial. Through this event, Masih hopes that Muslims will come to hear about Jesus Christ and that Christians who attend will know how better to answer questions that their Muslim friends may ask.

When asked what his approach will be for the debate, Masih answered, “I will use the Bible to interpret the Bible.” One thing for sure is that Masih is prepared to answer each question with a Biblical truth and allow God to guide him in his speech.

The Bible Is Entirely About Jesus

Masih seeks to show Muslims that the Bible is the same from beginning to end and that Jesus Christ is the center of the Gospel. It is through him alone that we can receive salvation and everlasting life.

John 3:16- “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 14:6- “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

With the truth found in Jesus Christ, there is absolutely no need for another prophet after Him. He brought life and salvation to this world allowing us the opportunity for an intimate relationship with Him.

“Most of these passages which Muslims claim are prophecies about Mohammed are actually talking about Jesus. So there will be a good opportunity to share about Jesus,” Masih said.

While Masih is prepared to share the Gospel and show Muslims that Mohammed is not mentioned in the Bible, he will also face a few challenges with only a short time frame, he must be prepared to debate 16 different Biblical passages including time for a rebuttal. He will also work to not reference the Qur’an in any way so that it will not be seen as authoritative.

To further his resources, Masih will prepare a Power Point presentation for viewers to follow along as well as offering to e-mail the presentation to anyone who would like to view it further and take time to research the Scriptures he will be presenting.

Ultimately, Masih will use this time to share the Gospel and show the authority of Jesus Christ in the Bible.

“It is important to clear up the misunderstandings [Muslims have] about the Bible so they come to know Jesus Christ and [are] saved,” Masih said: “It is also important to teach Christians how to answer any Muslim objection to the Bible.”

This debate will be both beneficial for Muslims and Christians in different ways. Ultimately, Masih and those supporting him are eager to see the Lord work through this debate. May God reveal Himself through the Scripture and give Masih the exact words to say that will touch their hearts.

As Christians, this debate should be in our thoughts and prayers. If you are in the area, you can attend and pray the Lord would open opportunities for this Muslim community to reach out and ask questions about Christ. And even if you are not able to attend, you can join in by praying for Masih on October 20th.

Pray the Lord would use him to reach many people. Pray that salvation would be revealed and hearts would be open and receptive to the Gospel.

What an incredible event this debate will be as Jesus Christ’s name is proclaimed amidst Muslim peoples. May this be a life-changing event that changes their lives forever and shows us as Christians how to properly interpret the Bible so we may answer, with wisdom, any question we are ever presented.

1 Peter 3:15- “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

The debate will be held at St Cloud State University, October 20th, as 6:00pm in the Atwood Center Voyager Room.

Defending Inerrancy: Affirming the Accuracy of Scripture for a New Generation

The doctrine of inerrancy has been standard, accepted teaching for more than 1,000 years, until recently it has come under fire. Apologist and bestselling author Norman L. Geisler present a defense of the traditional understanding of inerrancy for a new generation of Christians who are being assaulted with challenges to the nature of God, truth, and language. This book explained the accuracy and divine nature of the bible.

Simply Jesus: A New Vision of Who He Was, What He Did, and Why He Matters

This book is timely because as we approach the last days the church will become more and more captivated by the magnitude of the person of Jesus. As the church faces the many challenges of the twenty-first century, Wright has presented a vision of Jesus that more than meets them. When we are pulled into defending our faith against the world, we need to give them more than an argument. We need to show them who Jesus actually is, what he did and then dwell on the significant of that. “Jesus—the Jesus we might discover if we really looked,” explains Wright, “is larger, more disturbing, more urgent than we had ever imagined. We have successfully managed to hide behind other questions and to avoid the huge, world-shaking challenge of Jesus’s central claim and achievement.

The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus

This book effectively equips Christians to witness to their friends, neighbors, and families using the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. Habermas and Licona begin with a discussion about the importance of the resurrection of Jesus to Christianity. Then this book takes several arguments that attempt to dispute the resurrection of Christ and explains why they are unreasonable given the evidence we have.

The Unshakable Truth: How You Can Experience the 12 Essentials of a Relevant Faith

This is a very insightful, Bible-centered, and well researched book that covers 12 foundational Christian beliefs. This is an excellent book for anyone questioning the Christian faith or anyone wanted to strengthen their faith or defend their faith. Nothing can be more worthy to study, then to study why the foundation of Christianity has stood the test of time, while remaining the only religion that is open to criticism. Scripture even invites us to prove otherwise if that were possible. Unlike all other religions that are protected by theocratic rulers and persecuted control of investigating their documents, Christianity has only been proven to be correct by anyone that has done the research and looked at the mountain of evidence. Take a look and see for yourself why the story of Christ is completely accurate.
