Our 2012 New Year’s Resolution Is To Call On God To Intervene

By: Curtis Ophoven 0 Comments   1/1/2012

Prayer is the most effective means of change available to mankind.  This is true because God is sovereign (Isaiah 45:22), He listens to His people and He takes action when we ask Him to. (Matt 7:7)

There is no other more effective way to change the economy or the hearts of our family and friends than to pray to the God of heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:2)

Our new year’s resolution is to witness and document a great move of God in Central MN. And we know how to make that happen.

God is the only person that is capable of bringing a desire for holiness to Central MN.

This year we saw the opening of the Elk River 24/7 prayer room. This is exciting to see because every great revival began with a prayer movement.

Jubilee Worship Center of St. Cloud is starting the year with 40-days of prayer. In the middle of a weak economy and much of the world in crisis, the people of St. Cloud are taking time to pray.

UPDATE: Higher Ground Church of St. Cloud is also starting the year with 40-days of prayer and fasting. What a great city to live in where the people are people of God.

Prayer is the acknowledgment that we need God. We need him to directly intervene in our lives to bless us personally and to bless our ministry of reconciliation that He gave us (2 Corinthians 5:18). More than anything, we need God to influence the people in our community and state.

Hope and Change

Real hope and change cannot come from man because they do not originate within us. Hope only comes from the knowledge of Jesus – and not just for salvation, but for every aspect of our individual lives and society. The knowledge of Jesus is really the only true foundation to build a civil society upon.

“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.”- Psalm 127:1

In the same way, change for the better only comes from God’s direct interference, which He has been doing since creation. God can change the heart of any person as He has done many times. He is a personal God, interested in each person so much that He will leave whatever He is doing to pursue one lost person that cries out for Him. (Matthew 18:12-13)

I Want To Remember

I’m starting this year with a prayer journal to document what I pray about each day because I want to be able to go back and document what He did so that I can remember forever.

Each day has enough trouble by itself (Matt 6:34). When I need help I pray and sometimes I pray about so many things throughout the day as I encounter issues that I forget what I prayed. Then a few days or months or years later I see someone’s life changed and I struggle to remember what I prayed.

I want to remember what I prayed so that I will not miss out on the blessing of realizing what God has done. There is much to gain when we recognize what God does. We gain faith for ourselves and we gain a supernatural story to tell those around us.

The stories of scripture tell us that sometimes God will wait to act until we know it is Him that is at work.

Sometimes when we are in a very difficult situation it is hard to understand why God is not answering, but in those moments we need to consider when God waits for the situation to be impossible for us, both God and us have the most to gain.  This reveals how "those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength" - Isaiah 40:31. He always has the best intentions for us.

God gains the glory that is due Him from everyone that sees and hears the miracle and we gain faith in Him and a testimony to lead many others to life.

He loves to provide a way when there is no other way and it is clear that only He could have done it. He loves to do things that appear impossible so that we can testify to His glory and we will not forget what he did.

Remembering what God does in your personal life is one of the greatest ways to worship him. A great prayer is to read your journal and remind God what you prayed and how great His response was. He will be glorified and your faith will be strengthened.

Join me and make it a great year by finding some time just for God. Happy New Year!

What’s So Great About Christianity

This book is a response to the culture and media that continues to lie about Christianity. This is a passionate and intellectual presentation of the strengths and historical truths of Christianity. No other religion has brought the world greater rewards than Christianity, because no other religion contains a greater love given to the world by its creator. Without the unquestionable result Christianity, the world would not have been able to sustain itself and would have already been overtaken by death. We live in a time when atheism is attacking Christianity. This book reminds us that Christianity sustains the world.

The Truth War

Truth is under attack, and much is at stake. Christians are caught in the crossfire of alternative Christian histories, emerging faulty texts, and a cultural push to eliminate absolute Truth altogether. In this amazing new book, MacArthur reclaims the unwavering certainty of God's Truth and anchors Christians in the eternal, immovable promises that are found in His Word.

The Case for Christ

The purpose of this book is to determine if there's credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God. Lee Strobel interviews a dozen scholars, with doctorates from Cambridge, Princeton, Brandeis, and other top-flight institutions, who are recognized authorities on Jesus. The evidence is astounding.

One God, One Truth: The Clear and Simple Evidence

It gives definitive and accurate data on why the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the one true God of the Universe. Not only does it give evidence on the accuracy of the Bible but it gives proof of the errors in other religions in a sensitive and loving manner. It is not a book focused on putting down people of other faiths but rather a loving approach to help others recognize the one true God. I highly recommend this book to every Christian who has people in their life that they want to impact with the truth.
