Ramadan The Islam Month Of Fasting And The Christian Response

On Friday, July 20 the month of fasting known as Ramadan for the Islam religion began.

For the next 30 days, Muslims around the world will spend their days fasting and praying to Allah, the god of Islam.

As fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and considered to be one of the highest forms of worship in this religion, the month of Ramadan is one of great significance for the Muslim people.

Ramadan is celebrated in the ninth month of the Muslim year where the people observe strict fasting from sunrise to sundown.

During this “holy month,” they fast as a symbol of refraining from any pleasures found on earth. Also, by participating in this fast they seek to have a better understanding of the poor and often spend these days helping needy people throughout their community. Alms giving is another pillar of Islam, making this act one of great importance.

Fasting is also seen as a great act of worship and obedience to Allah, the god of Islam as they seek his mercy. As community is another important aspect in Islam, Ramadan is celebrated as a time of fellowship among all Muslim peoples. Families and neighbors enjoy a meal together at nightfall each day worshipping Allah and celebrating together.

While this is only a brief overview of Ramadan, it is important for Christians to be aware of such a meaningful month in the Islam religion. As followers of Christ, it is imperative for us to be in prayer for our Muslim neighbors both here and abroad. God sent his Son to die on the cross not just for you and me, but for every person in this world that believes in him. This includes every person born into a Muslim family.

During a month that is so focused on worshipping and serving a false God, it is a strategic time for Christians to pray for their salvation.

Psalm 67:1-3 “May God be gracious to us and bless us, and make his face to shine on us—so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.”

God’s heart breaks for the Muslim people groups of the world, and we need to pray that He breaks our hearts for them too. Many Muslims are searching for answers in their own faith and have not hear the true story of who Jesus is.

Let us rise up as Christians and pray that during the month of Ramadan, the Muslim peoples would come to know and worship the one True God. May they search for and know God personally and come to understand and experience a personal salvation and relationship with Jesus Christ.

Defending Inerrancy: Affirming the Accuracy of Scripture for a New Generation

The doctrine of inerrancy has been standard, accepted teaching for more than 1,000 years, until recently it has come under fire. Apologist and bestselling author Norman L. Geisler present a defense of the traditional understanding of inerrancy for a new generation of Christians who are being assaulted with challenges to the nature of God, truth, and language. This book explained the accuracy and divine nature of the bible.

The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus

This book effectively equips Christians to witness to their friends, neighbors, and families using the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. Habermas and Licona begin with a discussion about the importance of the resurrection of Jesus to Christianity. Then this book takes several arguments that attempt to dispute the resurrection of Christ and explains why they are unreasonable given the evidence we have.

Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics

J. Gresham Machen once said, "False ideas are the greatest obstacles to the reception of the gospel" - which makes Christian apologetics one of the most important foundations to hold onto a Christian culture. The story of how Christ pursued us is unique among other religions and provides the only positive answers to the many questions of life. This understanding of a positive justification of the Christian faith is greater than any competing world view and therefore crucial for sustaining tolerance for the Christian worldview.

What’s So Great About Christianity

This book is a response to the culture and media that continues to lie about Christianity. This is a passionate and intellectual presentation of the strengths and historical truths of Christianity. No other religion has brought the world greater rewards than Christianity, because no other religion contains a greater love given to the world by its creator. Without the unquestionable result Christianity, the world would not have been able to sustain itself and would have already been overtaken by death. We live in a time when atheism is attacking Christianity. This book reminds us that Christianity sustains the world.
