The Faith Of Jailed Pastor Saeed Is Strengthening The Faithful Around The World

Pastor Saeed, his wife and his children may not see the blessing in the situation they face, but his story is having a tremendous impact around the world.

In case you have not read about Pastor Saeed, he is an American Pastor that has been jailed in Iran while visiting family.

After six months of jail and torture, Pastor Saeed was recently sentenced to 8-years of hard prison.  His wife and children live in Idaho.  Their story is being told around the world.

There is a story in the Bible that tells us how persecution is a blessing.  In the time of Christ on earth, many were eye witnesses to the accounts of the life of Christ as Luke 1:2 points out.  An eye witness account is one reason why the Bible stories are undeniable and unforgettable.

Every generation needs an eye witness accounts of the faith of those that believe in Christ.  Pastor Saeed’s story is being shared around the world, just as his faith is being tested; the world is learning about the Lord.  Pastor Saeed’s story brings strength to those that are also facing persecution and it causes those who do not know Christ to question their own beliefs.

Who would suffer for something that is not true or not more valuable than his own life ?

All 12 of Jesus’s apostles were killed for their faith in Christ. If Pastor Saeed would go back to Iran to share the gospel knowing he is risking his life, he must have something to share with his friends and family that is worth more than his life.

At the same time, by persecuting Pastor Saeed the government of Iran is admitting their own religion cannot stand on its own.  If Christianity was false, its stories would not be compelling enough to cause people to believe in them and it would not be a threat to the religion of Iran.  The Iranian government is in a lose-lose situation, just as Jesus said his church cannot be stopped.

"And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." - Matthew 16:18

In order to protect the power of the government, they need to force people into believing in their state religion against the truth of Christianity, but by persecuting Christianity they are admitting that their own religion cannot stand up to scrutiny.

This brings us to realize why Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world, just as Christ said it would be in Matt 24 and 1 Tim 3:12.

It is precisely because Christianity cannot be proven false and it must be persecuted against in order for any other religion that can be proven false to dominate a people.  But the irony of persecution is that it has the opposite effect on the spread of Christianity

Rather than stopping the spread of Christianity, persecution causes more people to question Christianity and when those questions are answered with undeniable facts, more people become believers in Christ.

This is why Pastor Saeed and family can rejoice in his persecution. Persecution reveals the reality of Christ.

“Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you” – Matthew 5:12

When the prophets before Saeed were persecuted it didn’t stop Christianity, rather it caused their stories to be recorded in history and told around the world, which led to the spread of Christianity.  Pastor Saeed and family can rejoice because his persecution is telling millions of people about Christ.

This leads us to the story in Acts 5.  The Apostles were teaching and preaching about Christ and they were arrested and put in jail (Acts 5:18) and the Sanhedrin wanted to kill them (Acts 5:33). They were beaten and let go, but they left rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for Christ (Act 5:40-41) and a few verses later we read that the Word of God spread rapidly. (Acts 6:7)

Pastor Saeed is an example for our generation, an eye witness to the reality of Christ.

“Stand firm, let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58.

Rather then going unnoticed, Pastor Saeed's story is being told around the world on the Internet and millions of Christians are renewing their faith because of it, while millions of others are learning about Christ through it.
