There Is Still Hope For Our Nation's Debt

The United States of America has been under a tremendous amount of debt for a long time with no way out. Many of the senators and representatives we send to congress get caught up in greed and never really curb the governments spending.

They end up with a nice salary and benefit package and forget why they are really there. “The current salary (2011-2012) for ranknd-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year.

Members of Congress receive retirement and health benefits under the same plans available to other federal employees. They become vested after five years of full participation (Longley, Robert)”.

“We the people” need to demand more from our senators and state representatives, to shine the light and expose the problem of greed. So we can get things accomplished.

All it takes is a phone call, letter, or an email over and over again. If possible go and visit your congressmen. We have neglected our duties as Americans far to long, it’s time to get plugged in and involved with what they are doing. We need to do more than just vote!

Why have we allowed the politicians to get away with this for so long?  Who decides what they are paid? Is it they themselves who decide their wages?

They used to until lawmakers voted against it. “Want a raise? Don't beg to your boss. Just vote yourself one. That's what the United States Congress just did. For the fifth year in a row, lawmakers voted not to reject their automatic "cost of living" raise that will increase the annual salary of members by $3,400 to a total of $158,103 per year.

In 1989, Congress passed an amendment allowing for the automatic raises, unless lawmakers specifically voted to reject it. Which Congress did, until 2000 (Longley, Robert).”

If you had a choice what would you pay yourself?

In Proverbs 22:7 it says: The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender (NKJ). We don’t want to be servants do we?  Our government is leading us to personally be in debt which is the same as being servants or slaves. We shouldn’t follow their example but how can we turn it around?

Looking back to when Clinton was president our economy started to turn around for our country. The internet explosion helped and housing loans were easier to come by.

So the construction business was booming. With such loose guidelines for mortgages many people purchased houses they couldn’t afford and some weren’t responsible enough to keep up with their house payments. The Community Reinvestment Act started when Carter was in office 1977, but Clinton made amendments to the CRA which allowed unqualified borrowers to obtain mortgages.

It states on Alternative Insight: “Clinton had advantages. He entered office during the end of a recession, expanding capital markets, emerging technologies that increased productivity, and increasing global markets.”

“The Clinton administration has turned the Community Reinvestment Act, a once-obscure and lightly enforced banking regulation law, into one of the most powerful mandates shaping American cities—and, as Senate Banking Committee chairman Phil Gramm memorably put it, a vast extortion scheme against the nation's banks.  (Husock, Howard 2000).”

This is when the loose guidelines for mortgages came into play. The truth is George W. Bush improved this act in 1989 but somehow this becomes twisted in the media.

We need to research what the media is telling us in order to understand what is going on within our government. Unfortunately they are not giving us with an unbiased view anymore as the media appears to be leaning on the liberal side.

Thankfully there are different sources of news we can find on the internet so it is possible to hear different views in order to make a wise decision about the important matters in our nation and not get caught up on the stories trying to distract us.

Are we now reaping what we have sown?  Were things not as great as they seemed with Clinton in office?  Galatians 6:7 states clearly: Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap (NKJ).

The Gulf war with the first George Bush cost our nation millions and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq brought us deeper into a deficit. But are stimulus packages the answer?

Borrowed money needs to be paid back with interest. When money is created with out gold and silver backing it up and there is nothing giving it value, its just paper being made. The value of the dollar is going down and inflation is rising. Where should we look for hope?

It’s time for people to admit mistakes, including the presidents. Each era had a fault, the Bush era with the wars, the Clintons with loose guidelines for mortgages, and now President Obama blaming President Bush for everything and not really understanding how a free economy works. He has a third world mentality and we don’t want the government to control us!

We need to turn back to God and repent and ask Him for help. 1 Chronicles says: If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I would hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land (NKJ).

We as a nation need to repent for all of the greed, for being too proud to admit wrong, and blaming others. We need to seek the Lord for a solution.

But seek first, the kingdom of God, and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you. - Matthew 6:33 (NKJ).

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence - 1Timothy 2:1-2 (NKJ).

God wants to help us; He’s just waiting for us to ask Him. We need to turn to God and get instruction on how to help this nation. Are we praying for our leaders?  Are we keeping them accountable?  Let’s insist that those we place in office do their job!!! Or replace them with those who will.

Consider if you’re the one to enter into politics or journalism. Is God calling you to go in and make a difference?  We need more men and women of integrity in office and in the media. Please be open to God’s promptings if He’s leading you in either direction.

Business for the Glory of God

When students ask, “How can I serve God with my life?” they don’t often hear the answer, “Go into business”. But that is exactly what this book says. Grudem says, “human desires to increase the production of goods and services are not in themselves greedy or materialistic or evil. Rather, such desires to be productive represent God-given desires to dominion over the earth as He created us to do.” Grudem also explains that significant temptations accompany all productions of goods and services, which we need to resist. This is not a ‘Health and Wealth’ gospel, but a biblical looks at the goodness of business.
