Why The Earth Is Not Billions Or Even Millions Of Years Old

If you want to be able to defend your faith at some point you are going to be questioned about what happen in Genesis, which is why it is worthy to study and form a defendable answer.

In almost every discussion I have had with an unbeliever or Atheist, the conversion always ends up talking about the beginning.

In fact, most Atheists will not even try to talk about Jesus because the evidence is overwhelming; instead, they will go right to Genesis and ask questions that they think Christians cannot answer.  Their goal is to get you to discard the Bible in the debate, at which point you have nothing.

The beginning is one of the greatest battles for truth.  Millions of people have been led away from Christ by unanswered questions in Genesis.

The attack on Genesis started many years ago with Darwin’s book “The Origin of Species”, which has taken captive much of the modern scientific community.

The Earth Is Not Billions of Years Old

At the same time, modern science has uncovered astounding discoveries that have made the Genesis account of creation more likely than any other.  But there assumptions about evolution and the age of the earth keep many scientists from believing in their own evidence.

Pastors like John MacArthur realize how important the beginning is to the entire revelation of Christ.  John wrote the book “The Battle for the Beginning: The Bible on Creation and the Fall of Adam” to make the connection to Christ.

The theory of Evolution rests on the earth being billions of years old, and because the Genesis account does not tell us that the earth is billions of years old - they cannot trust it.

Therefore in order to put your full faith in the Genesis account, you must be able to address the scientific community’s reasons they provide for why they believe the earth is billions of years old.

So here they are and why they are wrong;

1) Radiometric dating – used to claim the earth is 4.55-4.6 billion years old

This video points out that radiometric dating tells us that rocks appear to be old, but they could have been created mature just as the animals and man was created, and we have no way to prove otherwise.  Therefore the assumption that rocks are old is nothing more than an assumption.

2) Light across the universe – used to claim the universe is 13.7 billion years old

In this video Danny Faulkner points out several reasons why the universe could not be very old.  For example, if our planets were even 4-5 billion years old, the Sun would have burned up to 80% of its energy and life on earth would no longer be sustainable.

Hugh Ross vs. Danny Faulkner - How old is the Universe?

1:00 into the video, Danny talks about how it is likely that God pulled the light across the universe in one day as we are told in Genesis "let there be light"  This debunks the key argument put forth by Hugh Ross.  Hugh Ross builds his argument on the idea that the laws of the speed of light must have stayed the same, then at 1:19 Hugh Ross points out that the laws of the speed of light must have changed in order to account for the rapid expansion of the universe.  I’m not sure why he does not see his own contradiction.

Hugh Ross is a Christian scientist and I have learned a great deal from reading his books, but I think he is wrong about the age of the universe as Danny points out.

3) The Fossil record – used to claim there are millions of years of death on earth before man

Many animals in the fossil record reveal that they died quickly, rather than over millions of years.  If fish were on the earth for millions of years, we would find many layers of dead fish in the oceans, but we don’t.  There is also no evidence of transition fossils of animals evolving anywhere in the world.  These are just a few of the things Ken Ham points out in his new book “Six Days”.

Ken Ham explains that when we say, "We can't trust what the Bible states here - we have to reinterpret it," how can we say that we believe what the Bible says about Jesus?  If we can't trust the creation account, how can we trust what the Bible says in the same passage about Adam and Eve, original sin and the reason for Christ?

"To put it plainly, our ability to fully trust God's promise of salvation relies upon our ability to trust everything He says about history from beginning to end."

According to secular scientists, the fossil record must have been laid down millions of years before man evolved.  The trouble is that if that were true we would find many more fossils all over the world.  But what we find is large groups of fossils in one place, and sometimes, in high places with many animals that were buried alive.  Much of the fossil record points to a major sudden death of many animals, like a global flood and the atmospheric changes to follow just as described in Genesis.

Conclusion

From the evidence of modern science, the earth and everything in it appears to be created a few thousand years ago just as God said in Genesis.

The nature of how the world was suddenly created can give us the impression that it must have taken billions of years.  Some scientists look at the evidence with this assumption because it is hard to imagine that God created all of this in an instance as he spoke things into existence.

The universe was created mature and fully functional, therefore giving us the appearance that it has been there a long time, but the same evidence points to the recently created universe.  In the same way, man was created fully mature as an adult and would not have survived if created as a baby or a single cell.

The Genesis creation account is defendable and so is everything else that follows.

Demolishing Supposed Bible Contradictions Volume 1

One of the most popular misconceptions by people who have walked away from the Church and their faith is that the Bible contains errors or inaccurate accounts. Many people also simply accept without question the claim by others that the Bible is full of contradictions. Even more disturbing is that a growing number of Christians are unable to respond when presented with an apparent inconsistency in the Bible. This book is a bold defense for the accuracy of Scripture.

I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist

This book shows why atheism and other non-Christian views require a lot more faith than Christianity. Geisler and Turek build their case from the question of truth all the way to truth of the Bible. Along the way, in a readable and often entertaining way, they debunk relativism, agnosticism, atheism, Darwinism and New Testament liberalism. This books also systematically show why the New Testament documents are telling the truth.

Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design

This book is arguably the best case for intelligent design as of 2011. Meyer shows the empirical evidence, and historical scientific reasoning. Without a question, the evidence of how DNA is constructed points to a very intelligent designer. No one in the scientific community has any other reasonable explanation for the signature of an intelligent designer that has been uncovered by DNA research.

Evidence for God: 50 Arguments for Faith from the Bible, History, Philosophy, and Science

In Evidence for God, leading Christian scholars and apologists provide compelling arguments that address the latest and most pressing questions about God, science, Jesus, the Bible, and more, including: -Did Jesus really exist? -Is Jesus really the only way to God? -What about those who have never heard the gospel? -Is today's Bible what was originally written? -What about recently publicized gospels that aren't in the Bible? -Is intelligent design really a credible explanation of the origins of our world? This book shows that is it more intelligent to believe in God then not to.
