Will The Dismal Future Cause This Generation To Take An Honest Look What Made America So Unique, So Great?

This is the question that Kirk Cameron undertook in his new movie, “Monumental, In Search of America’s National Treasure”.

What Kirk discovered was that the ideas that America was created with were the eternal principles that have not been tried since Moses.

Consider the significance that no other nation in the history of the world has experienced such liberty and freedom or the economic prosperity that resulted.  No nation has even come close in any category of freedom, human rights or prosperity as America has.

Every people and every nation should be interested in what made America so unique, just as the next generation of Americans should be interested to return America to its greatness.

Kirk Cameron was a guest speaker at the 2012 Values Voters Summit, in which he talked in great detail about what made America so unique.

Here is how Kirk began;

“I refer to myself as a recovering Atheist” … “As a father I’m looking around seeing that the writing is on the wall, all signs are saying panic.  Economically our nation is 16 trillion in debt. Morally, the very fabric of the nation appears to be crumbling with families falling apart, so much that is just out to erode the family, divorce and drugs and alcoholism, teenage suicide, so many unwanted pregnancies. … As a dad I’m wondering what can I do about this. … who will lead us out of this wilderness and back to blessing?

How do we return to the most secure and free and blessed nation the world has ever known?

So I went to England I began tracing the escape route of the Pilgrims. … To understand who they were and why they did what they did.  When I did the research myself and began examining the original source documents … I found that they learned these things from a very different place (then I was taught in school) and at the very heart of the treasure that made America so unique were the very eternal principles that have not been tested and tried from the ground up for 3000 years since the ancient republic under Moses.   And they were doing something utterly unique in the history of the world and we today are the beneficiaries.

By knowing that the human heart is bent towards servicing itself and prone to things like greed and pride, perhaps they would have had the foresight to put up some guard rails.  Perhaps they would have left us a reset button, so if we ever got off track, we could return to original factory settings. “

It turns out that the Pilgrims did leave us a copy of their plan, the greatest nation building plan in the history of the world.

This plan is the greatest treasure in the world yet the world does not want it because it requires the people to face the reality that the one true God rules and reigns over all the heavens and the earth and everything that is in them.

This plan, the only plan in the world, that results in national prosperity where even the poorest of the poor are richer than the rest of the world, requires that people believe “men shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the month of God” – Matthew 4:4.

Except for the Pilgrims that started America, no group of people in the history of the world has truly believed this statement and here is why, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” – John 3:19

How could God tell us exactly what to do to prosper and yet predict that we wouldn't do it?  It is things like this that are clear to me how brilliant he is.  Only the one that created us could have this depth of knowledge about us.

Kirk went on to describe the greatest nation building plan known to man;

“I looked and I found it. They left it for us in the form of the largest granite monument in the United States of America and most people have never heard of it.  I had never heard of it.  It’s sitting on top a hill is Massachusetts in a residential neighborhood.

It lays out our forefather’s strategy for how to build and sustain a free and just society.

She stands 81 feet tall, her name is Faith, she stands tall pointing to heaven, the God of heaven with a star on her forehead representing wisdom, and her left hand she holds the Word of God. It is specifically the Geneva Bible, which is the Bible the Pilgrims brought across with them on the Mayflower. This is the Bible that pre-dates the King James Bible.  They brought that with them and they believed in it; yes, our forefathers believed that you must have faith in the truth of the God of heaven and in his Word and that his Word would give you wisdom to know how to live and to govern your society in a way that would be a blessing to all. …

She is standing on a platform that is supported by four smaller statues.  Because our forefathers believed that faith was at the top, faith in God and his Word and it would be expressed if it was genuine faith in these four ways.

Firstly, it would be expressed through and internal transformation of the heart represented by morality. And morality is there, itched in granite sitting on a chair and in her right hand she is holding the Ten Commandments. In her left hand she is holding the scroll of Revelations. … If morality was put in place, then they would know which laws to pass; and, law is the second statue. …

There is the man of law with his hand stretched out in mercy and to his right is justice.  And lady justice is there, she has a sword in one hand and the scale of justice in the other so that there would be fairness and justice in the laws so that the punishment would fit the crime.  …

Now that you had civility in your laws that were based on a right morality, you could then educate your children. And it was imperative to them that you did, because you had to educate your children and your children’s children to pass your values on to future generations or they would be lost.  … And then fourthly, the culmination, the results, the reward of following this strategy … is liberty.

Liberty is seated in his chair … and he is at peace … with a bounty.  … I find it interesting that today one of our parties is wondering whether to keep the name of God in the platform, while according to our forefathers – God is the platform."

The greatest nation building plan in the history of the world is here for every nation to see, to study, and to witness its success, yet no group of people in the world are interested.

No other plan in history has ever produced anything even close to the blessings of those that search out the Lord’s plan. No other plan has produced freedom, liberty, justice and prosperity. The reason all other plans fail is because they begin by rejecting reality, the reality that Jesus is Lord and we are not.  The failure of all other nations is proof of this reality.  It is impossible to create a nation in any other way. There is no other way. This is not only true in nation building but also in each person’s life.  There is no other way to success, because all other ways lead to a disaster.

It's not even possible to build a nation that is a little successful while denying the reality of Jesus's rule.  It's much worse, because without understanding the irreplaceable value of biblical morality, a nation will become its own greatest threat. And its people will live with the misery of injustice, tyranny and bondage.

The Lord rewards those that seek him and since he is the only rewarder, their are no rewards for seeking any other. And yet it is very rare to find people that seek out the Lord, which is why the Lord is constantly searching throughout the earth for those who seek him (2 Chronicles 16:9).

If you want to be known by the Lord throughout the world as a rare gem, then boldly seek the Lord.

How Christianity Made the Modern World

The books shows how through century after century, Bible-believing Christians put their faith into action to help those who were unable to help themselves. In an age where Christians are often marginalized and where secular reporters with their warped anti-Christ agenda decry much of what our forefather did or even deny the West's Christian heritage, then this book is refreshing, life-giving and invigorating rain from heaven, soaked in facts, history, testimony and personal observation in country after country and place after place. Christianity is truly responsible for the success of the modern world.

Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream

David Platt reflects a wider move of God through which He is stirring His people to live radically for Him to finish discipline all nations (Mt. 24:14 and Mt 28:18-20). Platt urges us to discover Jesus as our sole treasure, to lay aside everything that keeps us from pursuing Him above all else, and to realize that "It's Not About Me." This is the complete opposite message that the world is telling us, that we are the center of the universe and we should live for our personal desires and ambitions without a care in the world for anyone else. The maturity of evil is complete selfishness, while the maturity of righteousness is complete abandonment of selfishness. The harvest is ready.

The Victory of Reason: How Christianity Led to Freedom, Capitalism, and Western Success

Rodney Stark tells how Christianity gave rise not only to visions of reason and progress but also to the construction of capitalism. Stark shows that Christianity is a forward-looking religion, with bold faith in progress and in its followers' abilities to understand God over time. It was this future-based rational theology that encouraged the development of technical and organizational advances, such as the monastic estates and universities of the Middle Ages. Stark concludes by maintaining that Christianity continues to spread in places like Africa, China and Latin America because of its faith in progress. One could draw a conclusion from this work, that Christianity is the cornerstone of global economic development.

The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism

In this apologia for Christian faith, Keller mines material from literary classics, philosophy, anthropology and a multitude of other disciplines to make an intellectually compelling case for God. Written for skeptics and the believers who love them, the book draws on the author's encounters as founding pastor of New York's booming Redeemer Presbyterian Church. One of Keller's most provocative arguments is that all doubts, however skeptical and cynical they may seem, are really a set of alternate beliefs.
