How Should Christians Vote?

Pastor Mark Johnson   11/3/2012

Pastor Mark Johnson is the senior pastor at Jubilee Worship Center, in St. Cloud MN.

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. (Prov. 29:2)

A very important election is coming up on Tuesday, November 6th. Christians should vote. It is one of the ways we can influence our culture as salt and light (Matt. 5:13-16).

Political leaders, especially the office of President of the United States, have an influence on the spiritual atmosphere of a nation (Prov. 29:2).

We shouldn't leave the election of such an important office up to people who don't know God. In the 2008 election, 17 million evangelical Christians did not vote! The election was won by less than 10 million votes!

Seek the Lord about who you should vote for. Do adequate research to know the candidate's views on various issues - especially those having moral implications. Consider the candidate's character and competence (Ex. 18:21a; Ps. 78:72). Make morality even a higher priority than economy, because eventually morality determines the economy (Deut. 28).

I believe Christians should vote for candidates whose views are the most consistent with God's standards.

God is pro-life (Ex. 20:13), and considers the unborn as human beings (Lk. 1:41; Jer. 1:4-5). God's word opposes homosexuality and doesn't approve of same-sex marriage (Gen. 2:24; Lev. 18:22; 1Cor. 6:9-11).

America has an obligation to be faithful stewards of its resources (1Cor. 4:2; Matt. 25:14-30), which includes avoiding excessive debt (Deut. 15:6b; Prov. 22:7; Ps. 37:21).

America should help the poor (Prov. 21:13; 28:27; Gal. 2:10) by helping them to become productive where possible, by helping those who are willing but unable to work, and by refusing to help those who are able but unwilling to work (2Thess. 3:10).

Will you vote consistent with Biblical values on Tuesday, November 6th?

Remember, a "no" or blank vote on the marriage amendment is a vote against biblical marriage between a man and a woman. I'm Pastor Mark, and I approve this message!

Postmodern Times

Just what is postmodernism? The average person would be shocked by its creed: Truth, meaning, and individual identity do not exist. Human life has no special significance, no more value than animal or plant life. This curse has spread across Europe and is now being taught in America, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. Christ is the foundation of life and has a plan and for each person.

The Truth War

Truth is under attack, and much is at stake. Christians are caught in the crossfire of alternative Christian histories, emerging faulty texts, and a cultural push to eliminate absolute Truth altogether. In this amazing new book, MacArthur reclaims the unwavering certainty of God's Truth and anchors Christians in the eternal, immovable promises that are found in His Word.

Why You Can’t Stay Silent: A Biblical Mandate to Shape Our Culture

Tom Minnery believes that Christians not only have a mandate to proclaim the gospel, but to see it exemplified in society as well. He believes that we are not really forced with choosing one or the other: either evangelize or do social reform. He says we can and should do both simultaneously. He refutes arguments that Christians shouldn't get involved in "the world" and that the church's primary responsibility is evangelism rather than social activism. The author emphasizes that for too long the church has remained silent regarding the moral decay surrounding it.

Marriage Under Fire

For the past forty years, the radical homosexual activist movement has sought to implement a master plan to utterly destroy the family. Dr. Dobson addresses the dire ramifications of judicial activism and presents compelling arguments against the legalization of homosexual unions. This book tells the hidden truths about the damage our nation will suffer if the family unit is further deteriorated.
