John 17:15

"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one."

Before Jesus went to be with His Father in heaven, He prayed this prayer.

Jesus didn't ask that we would be taken out of the world, because we have a mission to complete just as He did. In verse 18 he tells us that he is sending us into the world. "As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world."

There are two sources of evil in the world, one is the devil and his fallen angles and the other is the evil without the heart of man. (Jeremiah 17:6)

In this verse Jesus asked that the Father would protect us from the evil one or Satan but he does not mention protection from the evil of man.

I find this interesting because other passages say that we will suffer persecution and that the world will hate us that are in Christ. The verse before this says, "I have given them your word and the world has hated them."

The world hates to hear the truth because few want to repent and admit they have sinned against a Holy God. (John 3:19)
