Luke 9:23-24

"Then he said to them all: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it."

This verse tells us that Jesus's invitation to follow after Him, to become a Christian, was not an easy step to take.

In fact Jesus makes it clear that we must give up our lives for it. We must abandon the way of life we lived before and we must daily trust and obey what He has for us to do.

This is a stark contrass to many Christians today that want to retain the Christian label while rejecting the Christian doctrine in order to perserve their justification and peace with God.

But stealing the identity of Christianity will not change the way God thinks about us. (1 John 1:10)

Scripture tells us we are better off not having heard the gospel than someone that has heard the truth and yet rejected it. (Mark 14:21).

The cost of being a Christian is not worth faking it.

"Jesus said many will come and say they believed in him, yet they did not know him because they did not follow his commands." – Matthew 7:22
