Matthew 11:28-30

4/17/2018

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. "

Sometimes is difficult to understand this verse when we add it to other verses like "..take up your cross and follow after me.."

That does not sound like an easy yoke and a light burden. This verse only makes sense when you put your mind on heavenly things and ponder the reality of the kingdom of God and its eternity.

This verse is saying that if we are weary from fighting a life of sin that constantly destroys our hard work and never gives us rest, then we should give it up - repent and turn from sin.

When we repent, he forgives us our sins and paid the price with the life of his Son, so that we can be free from sin and the burden it has on us. And nothing can separate us from his love, so that we can rejoice in all circumstances.

This is the 'rest' for our soul that we find in Him and this is why his burden in light compared to the burden of sin and death.
